Discover Primary Science and Maths is a flagship project of the Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) awareness programme.
It facilitates teacher training in general primary science, and provides teachers with useful online resources – which 
can also be used by parents and students – and classroom activity packs.
Just over 3,100 primary schools and their teachers are currently participating in activities which include hands-on induction days which are hosted throughout the country in colleges of education, institutes of technology, universities and education centres.
Awards of Science Excellence
Discover Primary Science and Maths also manages the Awards of Science Excellence each year, as well as coordinating a series of Discover Science Centres across the country.
Schools registered on the Discover Primary Science and Maths project can opt to apply for an Award of Science Excellence after they have met certain criteria for science-related activities.
The schools must keep a log of these activities, and they get credit for visiting Discover Science Centres, inviting speakers to the school to talk about science, displaying their work and other explorative activities. Around 500 schools receive awards during each academic year.
