Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) launched Project Blogger as a pilot for the 2007-2008 school year and extended it the following year.
The purpose of the site is to allow teachers and second-level students in Ireland to create blogs based on their science experiences and interests. Through the blogs, their experiences can be shared with classmates and with students in other secondary schools.
As well as text, bloggers can add images and video to illustrate their blogs. They comment on each other’s blogs and review comments on their own blog before they are published.
A leader board based on the periodic table of the elements shows the most active blogs. Project Blogger is also searchable.
The site uses the powerful WordPress Multi-User system to give students access to advanced blogging features. They can choose from a range of design themes and create their own avatar images to personalise their blogs.
In 2009, DSE teamed up with Scifest to use Project Blogger to store all project results, pictures, graphs, videos and discussions.
Visit Project Blogger or if you’re an Irish second level student why not set up a blog.
