Smart Futures is a national campaign for second-level students, highlighting career opportunities in the various science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) sectors in Ireland.
As part of the Smart Futures campaign, Discover Science & Engineering manages the SmartFutures.ie website. The site includes career stories and competitions, STEM careers-related news, and regular online ‘events’ such as student Q and A sessions or virtual careers fair.
The first Smart Futures STEM online careers fair took place in January 2012, in which students, teachers and careers counsellors took part in online discussions with people from the industry about job opportunities, courses and career choices.
The second Smart Futures online fair in October 2012 highlighted career opportunities in STEM sectors such as medical devices, information and communications technology (ICT) and energy.
